Established in 2004, APSL is an association open to all Sri Lankans in the UK, irrespective of their ethnicity, creed or political affiliation. Our aim is to promote unity and professionalism among the Sri Lankans, foster good will and cultural relations in the UK, as well as support relief and development activities in Sri Lanka.
The APSL Scholarship Scheme was introduced in 2014 as part of the organization's 10th anniversary, aimed at helping talented students from lowincome families access quality education. Under the leadership of co-founders Mr. Mervyn Silva and Prof. Terrance Fernando, the scheme has grown tremendously over the past decade.
What began withjust five children has now expanded to support 153 students, thanks to the generosity of donors. These students come from various regions, including Bandarawela, Chilaw, Ja Ela, and Puttalam, among others. Recipients receive an initial bursary of Rs 5000, followed by Rs 4000 per month until they complete their G.C.E. Ordinary Level exams, and Rs 6000 for their Advanced Level studies. APSL closely monitors each student's academic progress.
At just £20 a month, supporters can help transform a child's life through education. For those interested in contributing, please contact scholarships@apsl.org.uk or visit our website at www.apsl.org.uk.
Since its launch in 2009, APSL's “Ask the Expert” series has provided a platform for members and the general public to benefit from the knowledge of experts in their respective fields. The event series is designed to make specialised knowledge accessible, with experts breaking down complex topics into clear, relatable discussions. Held three times a year, these sessions cover diverse areas including economics, law, medicine, engineering, and business.
