Established in 2004, APSL is an association open to all Sri Lankans in the UK, irrespective of their ethnicity, creed or political affiliation. Our aim is to promote unity and professionalism among the Sri Lankans, foster good will and cultural relations in the UK, as well as support relief and development activities in Sri Lanka.
APSL launched the Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) on March 25, 2020, to support vulnerable individuals and families in Sri Lanka. Over the past two years and nine months, the fund has distributed more than 13 million rupees across three phases. In the first phase, APSL focused on providing immediate dry rations to 1,650 families across all nine provinces and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to nine hospitals. With help from the Florence De Silva Memorial Fund and Hela Sarana UK, special care was given to families with young children.
In 2021, during the second phase, the focus shifted to combating the spread of COVID-19 by providing medical equipment and PPE to hospitals. APSL supported hospitals on 16 occasions and collaborated with the Sri Lankan Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) UK appeal.
Once again, Hela Sarana UK partnered with APSL to ensure that hospitals had the resources they needed during the second wave of the pandemic.
The third phase in 2022 addressed Sri Lanka's financial crisis by providing urgent medical aid to hospitals. APSL donated medical supplies worth 8.2 million rupees to hospitals on 37 occasions, with funding from various partners including Heal Lanka UK, the Aspire Community Foundation, and the APSL Cancer Relief Fund.
The Health and Medical Assistance Fund provides crucial healthcare services, including emergency medical care, surgeries, and long-term treatment for the underserved communities.
